Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed that a video game based on the iconic Marvel hero, Black Panther, is currently in development. The project is being undertaken by Cliffhanger Games, a new triple-A studio based in Seattle, and will be a collaborative effort with Marvel Games. Expected to be a single-player, story-driven third-person action-adventure game, this new title aims to provide players with the experience of stepping into the role of the protector of Wakanda, Black Panther.

Cliffhanger Games, headed by former Monolith Productions' team member Kevin Stephens, boasts a team of experienced game developers. These individuals have previously worked on popular titles like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, God of War, Halo Infinite, and Call of Duty. The team, which is still being assembled and is actively hiring, is in the early stages of the Black Panther project. Therefore, the game won't be ready for fans for a few years.

In a statement, Kevin Stephens said: “We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich SuperHero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.” This commitment to authenticity and player agency promises an exciting and immersive Black Panther gaming experience.

The announcement of the Black Panther game comes on the 57th anniversary of the character's comic debut in July 1966. Despite numerous appearances in various Marvel titles, this is the first time Black Panther will have his own solo game. Besides this, Skydance New Media, under the direction of Amy Hennig, revealed last year that they are developing a Marvel game set during World War II. It will feature Black Panther Azzuri (T’Challa's grandfather), Captain America, another Wakandan spy, and Howling Commando member Gabriel Jones.

The unveiling of a dedicated Black Panther game by EA is a significant milestone in the superhero's multi-media journey. As fans eagerly await more details and the eventual release of the game, they can look forward to experiencing Wakanda and the Black Panther legacy in a whole new interactive, and immersive way. While the project is in its early stages, the pedigree of the development team and their commitment to authenticity bode well for an epic Black Panther adventure.
