Both Minecraft and Terraria are one of pioneers of the sandbox genre and are the most famous of them. It is essential that people often compare them. But what are the main differences between the two? I'll explain in this article.

So what are they special for?

1. Minecraft is 3D and Terraria is 2D

Minecraft is a great 3D sandbox building game set in a procedurally generated world. It was initially released in 2009 and its popularity has never ceased to stop. By putting blocks, you can build anything you want, from a house to a giant castle to a rocket ship. You can play it alone or with your friends via multiplayer mode. Terraria, on the other hand, is a 2D platformer sandbox video game. It was released in 2011 and it is a clone of the original Minecraft. In the game, you can explore a randomly generated world, which, however, has limits, build a base and fight mobs. You can play it alone or with your friends via multiplayer mode.

2. Terraria has a better variety of mobs than Minecraft

Terraria has a lot of mobs. On the other hand, Minecraft has a limited variety of them. For example, zombies, skeletons, mummies, slimes etc. are some of the mobs of Minecraft. On the other hand, Terraria has much greater variety of mobs and bosses which vary with every biome. Jungle wasps, crimeras, frozen zombies, gladiator skeletons, goblins, aliens, pirates and much more! Also, Minecraft has only two bosses, while Terraria has more than ten!

3. Terraria has more tools and weapons than Minecraft

Terraria has more than 100 weapons and tools, which is much more than Minecraft. For example, you can find swords, spears, axes, bows, guns, magic wands, grenades, boomerangs, grappling hooks, magic spells etc. in Terraria. On the other hand, Minecraft has only a few of them. For example, you can find swords, pickaxes, shovels, axes, bows, crossbows etc.

4. Minecraft is more suitable for multiplayer than Terraria

Minecraft is more suitable for multiplayer than Terraria. It is because of its 3D nature and the ability to build and create things together. It is also more popular and you can find a lot of Minecraft server hosting sites on the internet. Minecraft also has a big variety of mods and plugins for servers that will make your multiplayer gameplay more fulfilled and satisfying.

5. Minecraft has more texture packs than Terraria

Minecraft has a lot more texture packs than Terraria. For example, you can find a texture pack that has a bright and colorful look, a texture pack that has a dark, gloomy and scary look, a texture pack that makes the game look like a cartoon and a lot more. You can even find a texture pack that makes Minecraft look like Terraria!

Pioneers of Sandbox

In conclusion, I'd like to say that both Minecraft and Terraria are great games and it is hard to say which one is better. Minecraft has a greater amount of mods and texture packs, while Terraria has a greater variety of mobs and weapons. Minecraft is more suitable for multiplayer, while Terraria is usually played in singleplayer. Both games are very popular.
